My research goal is to understand the trajectory of virulence evolution in fungal plant pathogens. Many molecular determinants are known to contribute to virulence yet how these factors are regulated during infection is poorly understood. My project aims to analyze adaptive evolution driven by the regulation of effector gene expression in the wheat pathogen Zymoseptoria tritici. Using transcriptome sequencing, I will analyze how polymorphism in the genome influences gene expression both in pure cultures and during leaf infections.
