Research:

My research project focuses on the role of groundwater in the criticality of fault zones. More precisely, I will investigate the relationship between groundwater pressure in deep aquifers, flow rates in springs and the occurrence of seismic events. Field investigations will take place in the folded Jura Mountains, and will focus on two major faults, the La Lance fault and the La Ferrière fault. The aim of this research is to develop a straightforward methodology for assessing fault criticality, as well as characterizing the architecture, the hydrogeology and the dynamic of fault zones in the folded Jura Mountains. Moreover, investigation of seismic events will provide important information about the stress regime. These information will be used as a basis for elaborating maps and 3D numerical models of the present day stress field
